Name of Thread: Let's give it a shot Characters Involved in Thread: Jesse Lynch & Ciera Devereux IC Month Thread Occured: Late June Brief Description of Thread: On a night off while hanging out at the local bar, Jesse bets Ciera on a few games of pool before losing twenty bucks and learning she's a cop.
The 80' s rock playing softly in the background, the smell of wasted beer and cigarette smoke that lingered in the air and the shot glasses that were constantly refilled by the friendly bartender behind the counter, what more could a guy ask for? It wasn't Vegas, but the small bar in Charming made Jesse feel at home from the minute that he had walked through those thick oak doors.
This time he hadn't made his way over to California on official club business, Zip was here for fun. He loved Vegas, but once in a while he just had to get away from all the flashing lights and dumb ass tourists that just asked to be robbed. Charming was a completely different world, a place where time seemed to have stopped and a welcome change for Jesse. Besides he had a little present that he wanted to give Clay, a little token of his appreciation for the man that ran Samcro.
Meeting up with some of the local Sons, Zip had spent a couple of hours in the dim lit bar. Laughing and drinking, telling each other stories about what happened in their own charter when one of the guys poked Jesse in the ribs with his elbow and pointed to one of the pool tables, saying. "Hey Zip... Check that out bro."
Turning his head in the direction that his friend had pointed, a playful grin appeared on Jesse's lips and he leaned back against the bar. From the place where they were standing, the sons had a spectacular view at the gorgeous brunette that leaned over the pool table to play a really tricky ball. With his eyes wandering over the girl's body, Jesse stood up and straightened his club colors. Reaching for his shot of tequila, he knocked it back and winked at his friends as he said, "Let me show you how we do it back in Sin City, guys... I'm gonna give it a shot."
One of his friends gave him a pat on the shoulder, while the others couldn't seem to stop laughing. "Yeah... Show us Zip." One of them spoke, followed by another laugh. Looking back over his shoulder, Jesse raised one of his eyebrows and shook his head. They were just messing with him, right? Or was there something he didn't know about? She was a girl, right? To hell with them.
With a confident look in his eyes, Jesse walked towards the girl playing pool and reached inside the pocket of his black leather jacket. Pulling out a twenty, he put it on the edge of the table and his eyes wandered across the girl's body for a closer look. Yes! Definitely a woman. With a charming smile Jesse looked the woman in the eyes as he spoke, "I'll play you for a twenty. Best of three?"

Sometimes gossip was just that, especially around Charming PD but for the first time in a long time Ciera was grateful for it. She’d pulled into the parking lot and overheard two other officers whispering quietly, “What’s she doing here?” “Doesn’t she know Chief gave her off tonight?” “If she doesn’t I’m not telling her, you know once she clocks in Deputy Hale won’t let her leave.” That had been all she needed to hear, turning around she’d headed straight back to the truck Chief Unser had let her borrow while her car was out of commission and went straight back home. Once inside she’d called the Chief to double check and once he’d verified it she showered quickly, put on something comfortable and headed down to one of her favorite bars. Granted she’d had rather driven her car but the truck worked till she could get it to Teller-Morrow to be fixed. This was where she usually did her two favorite things, had a few beers and embarrassed the boys in pool. True she’d only been ten years old when her father was killed in the line of duty but he’d been teaching her pool since she could stand at the side of the table and hold the pool stick. While Ciera wasn’t necessarily a pool shark she could definitely play the ‘I’m just a girl having fun’ card well enough that more than a few of the guys had been shocked by her ability to play. She’d been more than pleased when she stepped inside to find her favorite table empty, golden brown eyes sparkled as she approached the bar with a smile. The older man grinned ear to ear when her face appeared, “Now lookie here, thought you were working tonight Ciera?” Shaking her head she tousled those dark chocolate colored locks around her shoulders with a big grin, “Was planning on it but as I was headed in heard the Chief had given me the night off so figured I might as well take it and enjoy myself.” The older man nodded and laughed, grabbing a beer from the cooler and popping the top before he handed it to her. “Well you should enjoy yourself, first ones on the house for one of Charming’s Finest. Just try not to embarrass the guys too bad tonight if anyone decides to play you.” Nodding her head lightly she picked up her beer, taking a swig before giving him a wink, “I’ll do my best to behave, promise.” Heading over to the table she set it up and began to play by herself as she often did. It was more of an excuse to practice tricky shots than anything. The bar slowly became livelier and she’d had a few beers the time he’d come over, “I'll play you for a twenty. Best of three?” Taking the shot she’d been working on, she straightened up looking him over. He was a Son so she had to pause and she take another sip of her beer considering his offer. Remembering the promise she’d made she hesitated for a minute before she noticed the group he was obviously with laughing already. Shaking her head lightly she chuckled and nodded, “Your money so three games it is.” Ciera was always polite at least when meeting someone new and considering how small Charming was he was obviously not from around here. “Ciera Devereux and you are?” Holding out her hand she waited for him to introduce himself still smiling at the laughter of his friends, poor guy had no idea how they’d set him up. It dawned on her then they’d probably not even mentioned she was a police officer wasn’t that going to make things interesting when and if that ever came out. ((Wearing this))

Leaning back against the pool table, Jesse lit up a cigarette and took a long drag as he waited until the woman had finished her shot. Exhaling the thick, gray smoke slowly, Zip fixed his green eyes on the girl as she took another swig of her beer and seemed to think about his offer. When she chuckled and agreed to play him, Jimmy gave her a charming smile of his own and said, "Good... I can use some fun." It never occurred to him that he could actually lose his money and the biker was convinced that the girl didn't even stand a chance against him.
He would make it last a while, maybe even give her the chance to win a game... Jesse had no intention to piss her off by playing her off the table like a pro, what good would that do? No, he wanted the game to be fun for the two of them, create a relaxed mood for him to get a chance to talk to her, because let's be honest... It wasn't her money that he was interested in.
With a warm smile playing around his lips, Jesse accepted the hand that was reached out to him and shook it firm, but gently as he said. "It's a pleasure meeting you Ciera. The name's Jesse, Jesse Lynch but my worthless friends over there have the habit of calling me Zip." Pointing over to his friends, Jesse looked over his shoulder and noticed that they were still laughing. Shaking his head softly while letting out an amused laugh, he called to them, saying. "Thanks for the moral support guys!"
Still chuckling, Zip turned his attention back at Ciera while he said, "Ladies first hun..." Wasn't he just the perfect gentleman?

She smiled when he finally introduced himself, “Nice to meet you Jesse… Zip huh? Guess there’s a story behind that.” When he motioned to his friends, those golden brown eyes glanced over and she couldn’t help but smile. Oh this poor man, they were messing with him something awful and he had no idea. When he told her ladies first she chuckled and took another swig of her beer. “If you insist..”
Racking them up she cleared the table easily on the first game, trying to remain completely oblivious to the raucous laughter coming from where his friends were seated watching. Pausing to take a sip of her beer after she racked the second game she smiled, “Sure you don’t want to start this one?” Ciera didn’t want to beat him too badly but the guys obviously knew what she was capable of when it came to a game of pool. Leaning against the table she watched and waited to see whether or he would take her up on the offer. It was more than possible if he didn’t she’d run the table on him again, but giving him the chance to break would leave her with more interesting shots and she was looking forward to those.
Glancing at him she tilted her head slightly, “So you’re a member of the Sons? Must not be from Charming then otherwise I’d recognize you.” Being on Charming PD meant she had to know just about every member of the Sons by sight which explained just why his friends were having such fun at his expense. They knew who she was and what she was, Jesse didn’t have a clue. She couldn’t decide whether to tell him or not, given how hard his friends were still laughing she doubted they planned on telling him.

Jesse couldn't help but smirk when Ciera commented on the nickname the other sons had given him. There was a story behind it all right, but he wasn't going to be the one to tell it. He rarely ever did. Looking up at the girl, he gave her a playful wink and said, "There's a story behind everything, girl... You just gotta be patient enough to find out." She asked if he insisted to have her start the first game and Jesse simply nodded with a smile, convinced that he could win the game without even breaking a sweat.
Things turned out different and Jesse quickly learned that the girl knew how to play the game. He didn't even stand a chance, Ciera had cleared the table before he was even getting into the game. Zip was a sore loser, always was and always would be, but he tried to hide his disappointment and kept smiling as Ciera prepared the table for the next game.
It was hard to ignore the laughter of his friends and by now Jesse realized that he was set up. They knew that this girl rocked the pool table, but neglected to inform him. They could laugh all they want now, but he would make them pay for it, one way or the other. Ciera asked him if he wanted to start the second game and Jesse shook his head slowly. With the biggest smile he could muster, Zip looked up at the girl again and spoke, "Nah... You can start it, sugar. I just needed to get in my game, but I'm all good now"
A waitress passed them and Jesse signaled her to come over. When the girl was ready to take their order, Jesse gave her a smile and spoke. "Can you get me a shot of tequila? Make it a double... And bring the lady another beer, would you?" Turning back towards his opponent, Jesse nodded his head and spoke, "Yeah... I'm a member of the Vegas charter. Just came over to meet up with a couple of the guys. So you're a friend of the club? The guys seem to know about you."
"What about you? Local or just kinda got stuck in this place?"

She had to smile at his obvious surprise at her ability to play. When he agreed to let her start the next game she decided it might be nice to take it easy on him. Given the way his friends were laughing it really wasn’t fair to embarrass him anymore than necessary. Golden brown eyes watched the balls move around the table as she broke before turning back towards him, listening as he ordered them both another drink. “Thank you Jesse.”
It was nice of him given the fact that she was pretty sure he was going to lose his twenty bucks as well, but she’d needed another beer anyway. Taking a swig she finished off the bottle she’d had and sat it down at the table nearby. She hadn’t sunk a ball on the break on purpose to give him a shot at winning at least one game. When he explained he was from the Vegas charter she nodded lightly before he asked how she knew the Sons.
“That’s kind of a long story; I’m not really a local. Was born in Los Angeles but my family is here. Moved back when I was 10 and I’ve just kind of grown up around them all.” That was being vague, given she’d left out that her Uncle was the Deputy Chief, she was a cop and her father had been a cop in L.A. Her slender shoulders shrugged as the waitress brought their drinks over setting them on the table, “I wouldn’t say I’m stuck here though. I like Charming. It’s peaceful and quiet most of the time aside from the occasion trouble the Sons cause.”
She had been left out of most of that recently, the downside to being a rookie. But then again she didn’t like the idea of having to arrest any of the guys she knew at least. She was probably one of the only ones aside from Chief Unser who didn’t have a real problem with the Sons; they tended to take care of their own problems and in a small way kept most of the bad stuff out of Charming. Taking her turns as the game progressed, she would continue to take swigs of her beer until the second game was over and he'd lost by one ball.
This of course brought a whole new round of laughter from the guys and she shook her head glancing over at them, "You guys are horrible you know that?" One of them paused laughing long enough to give a mach salute towards her, "You know it Officer Devereux." Shaking her head lightly, which tousled those dark locks of hers she laughed waiting to see his reaction to that little bit of news they finally decided to drop on him.

It surprised Jesse to see that Ciera didn't pocket a single ball on her break, but to be honest he was glad about it. If she'd play him of the table like the last game, he would have to pack his bags early and head back to Nevada, because honestly... They would remind him to the fact for ages here in Charming. When she thanked him for the drink, Jesse flashed her a smile and said, "You're welcome..."
His first shot was far from bad, he managed to pocket two balls at once and had some hope to win this game when the waitress came back with their drinks. Knocking back his shot, Jesse closed his eyes and felt the liquor burn its way through his body as a shiver ran down his spine. He never did care for the salt and lemon and even if the stuff tasted like gasoline, tequila got the job done. Damn! That stuff hit the spot.
Leaning against the wall while fiddling with the pool sticks in his hand, Jesse listened to what Ciera had to say about herself. "From L.A. to Charming? That had to be a change. Jesse said, but he couldn't help laughing when Ciera talked about how peaceful and quiet Charming was. Still chuckling, Jesse slowly shook his head and spoke. "This place would be a ghost town without Sam Crow and you know it... Don't get me wrong, I love Charming but it's just a little to quiet for my taste. Guess that's a result from growing up around the Vegas strip."
The game progressed and Jess kept his hopes up of winning this round and settling the wager in the final game and he really had some fun. Just before he was about to pocket his last ball, Ciera beat him to it and Jesse let out a loud sigh as he ran a hand through his hair. God... The guys would make sure he wouldn't forget this night for a long, long time.
She had won fair and square, so Jesse did what he had to do. He payed up his twenty bucks as he could hear his friends laughing and joking in the background. "Here ya are... Good game, girl." After handing Ciera the money, Jesse started walking back towards the bar. The boys made their point, learned him a little lesson and although Zip didn't take losing all to well, he could laugh about it.
When Ciera turned her attention to the rest of the sons, Jesse stopped in his tracks and felt his jaw drop when he saw their reaction. She was a cop? No shit! That was why those asses couldn't stop laughing. Turning around his steps, Jesse walked back to Ciera and said, "You're just as bad, you know? You could've told me..." He waited a few seconds and lit up a smoke, before giving her a playful wink and saying, "If you ever find your way to Vegas, you should pay me a visit... And bring those handcuffs, officer Devereaux." With a laugh rolling off his lips, Jesse turned around and walked away.
He wouldn't mind meeting Ciera again, but for tonight he had enough of this girl and this place. He said goodbye to his mates and headed out, back to the club house.

Ciera just gave a slight shrug of her shoulders when he turned his attention back to her, “Hey your club buddies, not mine. I think it’s kind of become a right of passage or something for anyone new to Charming.” This wasn’t the first time she’d met a Sons member like this and probably would be the last but when he lit up that cigarette and winked at her she couldn’t help but smile lightly. She hadn’t been to Vegas at least not since her twenty-first birthday so the idea wasn’t all that unappealing when he mentioned bringing her handcuffs though she blushed bright.
“Guess we’ll just have to see about that Jesse.” She was used to being hit on but not really so blatantly at least once someone found out what she did for a living. Once he walked out she headed over to the bar where the other Sons were gathered, handing one of them his twenty she smiled, “Tell him to keep it. He can use it to buy me some drinks if I decide to take him up on his invitation.” Paying her tab she headed out the door and climbed into the old truck.
She couldn’t wait till she could get her car over to Teller-Morrow get her fixed and be back out on the road. Maybe once that happened she’d make that trip to Vegas but as she pulled out, she was still debating on whether or not she’d take her hand cuffs or not.
